The site covers nearly 2,250 acres and about one fifth of this would be developed to create 7,500 homes and supporting infrastructure, leisure and community facilities. It is located between the Kennet and Avon Canal and the M4 and is a degraded landscape resulting from intensive mineral extraction. As a member of the consultant team, PLACE has contributed to the formulation of a masterplan and provided advice with regards to the retention of the existing landscape, public rights of way, creating a new land/water interface, establishing a nature park and sustainability issues. PLACE was also commissioned to prepare the environmental statement, the landscape and visual impact assessment and the recreation impact assessment for the proposed development.
